About me

I am currently enrolled in the Information Technology program DATC.  A little back ground on me and  how i got into the information technology program at the DATC.  After High School my dream was to own my own auto mechanic shop, that is until i started working full time as a mechanic in a shop.  I quickly found out that as much as i loved cars and loved to work on them, I didn’t love working on other peoples cars nears as much. I also soon realized that working on cars 8 to 10 hours a day was physically demanding on ones body and the of your average mechanic wage was just above the poverty level.  That is when I decided that being a full time mechanic wasn’t for me and decided to go to school.  I went school to get my BS degree from Weber State University.

I Graduated from Weber State University with a BS degree in Automotive Technology.  I still loved cars so I thought I would get a job working with them in more of a white collar job.  While i was attending school, about 50% of the people in my major were
getting desk type jobs for one of the major car manufacturers (GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota etc.).  When I graduated a few years later, right after September 11th attacks, only two people were hired from my graduating class and I wasn’t one of them.  Because I didn’t get the job I was hoping for, a friend of mine suggested I work with him at a mortgage broker company.  Since I didn’t have any other job prospects at the moment I decided to go for it.  Fast forward 13 years and I’m still working doing mortgages on commissions.  After being on commissions for thirteen years I decided I had enough of the roller coaster ride and wanted to do something more stable.  So after months of checking out all my options I decided the best thing for me was to quit my job and go back to school in IT at the DATC.

I chose IT and the DATC for a few reasons, first i have always liked working with computers and been able to figure things out with computers and have learned how to do things on my own with them.  I also have a few family members and friends that work in the IT field and they like what they are doing and told me they thought i would be good at it and told me that there is always jobs for someone that knows what they are doing in IT.  I choose the DATC because they offered the classes I wanted to take with the most hands on experience at class. Plus they offered open enrollment which means they have very flexible class times that work with my schedule.  I look forward to learning as much as I possibly can and hope to have a job in IT when finished.
